Homemade Baking Powder

Did you guys catch the baking powder recipe shared by Whole New Mom at this week’s Homestead Barn Hop? I thought this was so great, I wanted to make sure you all knew about it!

Homemade Baking Powder! Whodathunkit?!

Here’s how easy it is to make:

For 1 cup of baking soda, mix…

  • 1/4 c. baking soda
  • 1/2 c. cream of tartar
  • 1/4 c. cornstarch or arrowroot (optional: only necessary if storing; anti-caking agents)

Or, for a much smaller batch…

  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (optional)

Cool huh? This is great to know for our long term food storage as well; just one more thing we can make ourselves and not have to worry about stocking up on! I love that this homemade version is aluminum free, too.

Thanks, Whole New Mom for sharing! I would have never thought of this!

  1. Thanks for sharing this ! We go through so much baking powder and the aluminum-free brands are expensive. I had just stocked up on arrowroot and cream of tartar and always keeping baking soda onhand, so now will not need to purchase the bulk baking powder I’d been anticipating.
