Storey Publishing has come out with a wonderful new book titled The Chicken Encyclopedia. If you own chickens, or are thinking of getting them anytime soon, this book is an absolute MUST HAVE.

Have a chicken question?  The Chicken Encyclopedia has your answer!  From addled to wind egg, crossed beak to zygote, this A-to-Z reference guide provides everything you ever wanted to know about chickens in a browsable format with visually informative full-color photos and illustrations throughout.

Covering everything from breed descriptions to behaviors, in-depth entries by best-selling author and highly respected chicken expert Gail Damerow go beyond simple definitions to include instructions, explanations, solutions to common problems, and even fun, historical breed stories.  At a time when interest in raising chickens is skyrocketing and backyard chicken coops are popping up across the country, The Chicken Encyclopedia is destined to become the go-to resource for anyone who wants to “talk chicken” – beginner, chickophile, owner, and enthusiast alike.

  5. I would love this book. I will have chickens at some point. My husband is not yet convinced. I, on the other hand, have picked out the breed, number, use, type of coop, etc. It’s all in my head and once I sense a weakness in my love’s defenses, it will be chickens…bwahahahahaha. Oops. Shhhhhh.

  6. I have chickens but I’m sure I’m doing everything wrong. I recently bought the book “keeping a family cow” and I’ve learned I’m totally milking the critter wrong. It basically says you should give the cow a bath before you begin to milk. Which I don’t.

I like reading books like this but I think my pride gets in the way a bit as I don’t like to be told I’ve been doing things wrong.

I like the idea of an encyclopedia format as it may help me look things up when I know I’m doing something wrong and feel like figuring out the right way to do it.

Thanks for offer. If I’m not the lucky winner I’ll look for the book next time I’m ordering.

  7. This is so cool. Have had our sweet chickens for a year now. They are pure entertainment! Can’t imagine our lives without them now. I love reading anything about chickens and this would be great to win! Thanks for the opportunity!!!
