My step-mom used to make this all the time. I LOVE it! She never did give me a recipe for it, she just showed me how she mixes the stuff together and tastes it until it’s the right flavor. When I make it, I just throw it all together to taste too. But, since I wanted to share it will you guys I decided that I’d measure it all out tonight when I made it with dinner, so that I could give a more accurate recipe. Here it is:
Cucumber Salad
- 1/2 cup Ranch dressing
- 2 Tbsp white vinegar
- 2 Tbsp white sugar
Just mix it all together, then add cut up fresh cucumbers. It’s that easy!! And it’s SO good. Of course you can add a little more of any of the ingredients to your taste preference. This is enough for several cucumbers. You can refrigerate the leftovers for another day as well.
Let me know what you think if you try it!

yogurt, dill and cucumber,
My mom added dill and onion. Yum.
I am weeks and weeks away from cukes from my garden-sigh.
I make a similar salad that my gram passed on to us with sour cream as the dressing base.
One tip: Slice the cucs as thin as possible. As you slice occassionally sprinkle salt over them. Cover the bowl and let it set for at least an hour.
The salting will pull the juice out of the cus which you can then drain off before stirring your dressing ingredients. This will make for a thicker dressing – and don’t worry – it doesn’t make the salad saltier at all!
Yum. I never thought to add ranch. Gonna try that, for sure.
we all love cuke salad too but we use 1/2 sour cream and 1/2 mayo instead of ranch dressing. mmmmm aren’t they great?!
My recipe calls for equal parts (1/2 cup) of sugar, water and vinegar. It keeps a long time and you can add some of the sliced cucumbers or other veggies that are in it to a toss salad.
I make this too only a little different, I definately put onion in it and I use mayo instead of ranch dressing, apple cider vinegar instead of white and this is one of my fav ways to eat cucumbers too!!!
We do something similar where we slice some of our sweet red onions into it—soooo good. Occasionally I will add some cherry tomatoes if they are ready to be picked.
I am so hungry for my garden now and I have a good 3-4 weeks before I get produce.
My 3 1/2 year old loved it! Thanks for the recipe!
I made some today, its good!
That sounds delicious! Once our cucumbers start coming, I will have to give it a try! It’s always good to have plenty of ideas for cucumbers if you grow them yourself–they always come in abundance!
